Protect Access to Care and Public Health Measures in the Affordable Care Act

Members of the U.S. House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate have vowed to immediately begin work on legislation to dismantle and repeal the Affordable Care Act. Repealing the ACA would result in nearly 30 million Americans losing their health insurance coverage and would eliminate the Prevention and Public Health Fund.

Draft Language for you to use:

Please resist efforts to repeal the Affordable Care Act until a viable plan is developed that ensures the coverage, protections, and important public health measures in the current law. The people of Arizona should have access affordable health care that provides necessary services including preventative and behavioral health care.

Repealing the law without a workable replacement could threaten 709,000 Arizonan’s health care coverage, take billions of dollars out of Arizona’s economy, threaten safety net and rural hospitals, and leave Arizona’s most vulnerable at risk.

Please ensure that Arizona’s Medicaid program is maintained under any alternative plan that is developed. The Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System provides high quality managed care through a cost effective public/private partnership. This expanded system has boosted the number of insured in Arizona, diminished the burden of uncompensated care for health care providers, and serves as an important budgetary underpinning for a number of the state’s programs including services for persons with developmental disabilities and people with mental illness and addiction disorders.

Please do not vote to repeal the Affordable Care Act until a viable plan is developed that ensures coverage, protections, and important public health measures currently in the Affordable Care Act. Arizonans are depending on you. Please don’t let us down.

Thank you for taking action today!
